My husband and I have talked about creating blogs- for him, blogs related to his executive coaching business and for me, on a more personal level. I mentioned that I have just gone in and created a Blog site titled "Life with Mary." Our 4-year-old daughter heard what I said and she squealed, "Life with MEEEEE!!!!"
Yes, I will be talking mostly about my daughter. I am Filipino-born and bred and married to an American of Swedish-Scottish descent. My daughter is a "breed"- a beautiful, wonderful mix, she has my features, touched with a lightening brush. She has lighter skin than me, brown hair instead of black hair, big brown eyes...
So far, the biggest challenge is teaching her Tagalog, my native language. It is a challange for me, not for her. At this early age, she pretty much can learn anything. Before I had her, I always thought I will have a true bilingual child, reared in American English and Tagalog and will be able to speak in both languages at a very early age. I will speak to my child in Tagalog from the moment she/he was born, my husband will of course speak English- the baby books say this is how you can do this. Well, I got lazy, I did not want to switch from one language when talking to Mary and then English when I'm talking to everyone else.
I guess it's not too late. I could start just talking in Tagalog from now on, with her. It will be rough for a few months but eventually she'll get it. I'll try.....
